APPRENTICE TO THE MASTERS WRITER’S WORKSHOPS
Director – Dr. Joe DeGross

SUBJECT: Chattanooga Workshop
TOPIC: Common Errors in Creative Writing that Ruin a Story
WHEN: Saturday, January 11, 2003 10am to 1pm
WHERE: Ronald McDonald House Library, Chattanooga

I’m planning a workshop for all of you Chattanooga based writers. This
workshop will take advantage of my experience as both fiction writer and
fiction editor. We will look carefully at the kind of writing errors, both
structural and artistic, that will cause your manuscript to be passed over
when you submit it for consideration. As some of you already know I am a
fiction editor for Carve Magazine and Mild Horse Press, which publishes an
annual anthology of the year’s best short stories. Each year I read hundreds
of stories, looking for good ones to publish. I am also a published fiction
writer and essayist, so I understand both sides of this situation. I teach
Creative Writing at Chattanooga State, and my workshops have been helping
writers in Nashville for several years. A few of my students have already
become successfully published authors.

This workshop will help you eliminate the errors that assure your story of not
getting a complete read by an editor. More importantly, it will help you
improve your artistic skills. We will look at writing samples of your work
and make suggestions at this workshop.

I can only accommodate 12 people at this kind of workshop so please sign up as
soon as possible. A small group makes for a much better learning experience.
Tuition is 60 dollars and is payable in advance of the workshop to hold your
place.

Contact me as soon as possible at my email address if you want to attend or
would like additional information.

Thanks, Joe DeGross [log in to unmask]
