Please remember the blood drive/bone marrow testing today for Sheila Stone.
We all can do our part for her and our community.
BLOOD DRIVE/BONE MARRO TESTING TO ASSIST UTC STAFF MEMBER
A blood drive and bone marrow test for Sheila Stone will be held today,
August 28 from 3:00 to 8:00 at Red Bank Baptist Church (4000 Dayton
Boulevard). Bone marrow testing is free through Blood Assurance!
Sheila Stone, the foreign language department secretary was diagnosed with
Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in May 2002. Sheila fought through 2 months of
chemotherapy, then went into remission. The cancer is in the first stages
of returning, and Sheila starts chemotherapy again August 18. She will have
to go one week at a time to receive 3 hours of chemo each day. She will
have 3 weeks off, then start the chemo cycle over again. Sheila will
eventually have to go to Vanderbilt hospital to receive a bone marrow
transplant. A donor is yet to be found, so we are encouraging everyone
between the ages of 18 and 60 to join the National Marrow Donor Program. We
can give Sheila and other patients with leukemia and life-threatening blood
diseases a second chance at life!
