passed the 8th grade in 1895?

Most of us could have passed the 8th grade exam in 1895. These are some of
the reasons.
    * We could have been taught as they were taught.
    * In general, SURVIVERS survive anywhere in space and time. In other
words, majority of those who succeeded in 1895 will succeed today, and
majority of those who succeed today would have succeeded in 1895.
There is a difference between ability and expectation. Nobody rises to a
lower expectation.
