Ms. Twyler Boykin, Director of UTC’s Upward Bound Math and Science program,
recently received $222,916 from the U.S. Department of Education to support
four more years of the program entitled PRISM (Promoting Resolve in Science
and Mathematics).

Ms. Boykin will utilize the funds to serve 50 low-income, potential
first-generation college-bound students from the Howard School of Academics
and Technology and Brainerd High School. With this support, Ms. Boykin and
PRISM staff members will provide vital academic and social support services
including tutoring sessions, college planning, financial aid assistance,
summer research opportunities, and positive recreational activities.

The primary goal that Ms. Boykin and the PRISM staff hope to achieve through
these services is to motivate participating students to enroll in math and
science post-secondary programs and eventually take jobs in these fields.

Congratulations to Ms. Boykin for this continuation! UTC’s PRISM program is
essential because it provides equal preparation for and access to math and
science programs, and it will significantly widen the spectrum of students
who enroll in these areas at the post-secondary level.
