The Help Desk has been quietly installing Norton AntiVirus on computers
around the campus for some time. Computer viruses, while not quite the
reason for panic the news media might have us believe, are an annoying fact
of life these days. We recommend that every computer be protected with
some kind of antiviral software.

Now that our "testing" phase is over and summer is here, we would like to
implement installation on a departmental rather than individual basis. If
your department would like to request installation over the summer, please
ask the department head or secretary to send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask] to schedule a time when we could visit all (or as many
as possible) computers in the department. We will need the following
information for each computer:

Primary User's Name
The Computer's 6-digit UTC Tag Number
Manufacturer and Model
Operating System

If you need help determining this information, please visit
http://www.utc.edu/helpdesk/pc_info.htm. Note that under the terms of our
license, we can install Norton AntiVirus only on University-owned computers.

If you are knowledgeable about computers you may be able to initiate the
installation yourself. Managers of computer labs should definitely pursue
this option. See our web page at http://www.utc.edu/helpdesk/antivirus.htm
for more information.
