Hello, Everyone,

The Faculty Senate recently appproved changing the title given its committee that represents interests of non-tenured faculty to the "Contingent" Faculty Committee.

The title of the former "Part-Time Faculty Committee" has been changed to the "Contingent Faculty Committee." The new title offers a more representative term that includes all faculty who are appointed off the tenure track -- faculty such as adjuncts, visiting professors, and full-time term appointees.

"Contingent Faculty" is a widely accepted title used by many national organizations, such as AAUP and NCTE, and by most universities. The UTC Faculty Handbook will begin using "Contingent Faculty" to refer to this diverse group of teachers.

Watch in the coming weeks for the first E-Newsletter published for distribution over RAVEN that will feature Contingent Faculty members and provide information to promote participation and awareness of this entity's valued contributions to our university.

Best regards,

Pat Kopetz, Chair
