UTC's Black History Month Celebration

The following events are planned in observance of UTC's Black History
Month.  All events are free and open to the public.  For information call
Hellenna Terrell at 4258.

Mon. - Fri., Feb. 1-5
Historical pictorial of old Chattanooga displayed by the African American
Museum of Chattanooga.  Includes local, national, and internationally known
African-Americans who have impacted the world.  Located on the first floor
of the University Center.

11 a.m. -1 p.m.
Student Health Services will provide free anemia and blood pressure
screenings to students, faculty, and staff in the lobby of the University
Center.

Sun., Feb. 7
11 a.m.
UTC Day at First Baptist Church on East 8th Street.  Chattanooga's oldest
historically black church will host UTC day as a part of the morning
worship service.  Students from the UTC community will be on the program
and music will be provided by the Littleton H. Mason Singers.  For more
information, contact Rev. Adam McKee at 265-3229 or the Office of Minority
Affairs at extension 4258.

Mon., Feb. 15
7 p.m., Signal Mountain Room
African-American Trivia Pursuit/Who Am I?  The fun of Trivia Pursuit with
an African-American twist!  Sponsored by the Black Student Association,
this is a great opportunity to learn little known facts about Black
history.

Wed., Feb. 17
8 p.m.
University Center.  Sounds of the Motor City Review.  Exposure Music Revue
Celebration of Black history with a soul stirring interactive performance
featuring the music of Motown.  This show requires audience participation
for lots of fun!  Sponsored by BSA, ACE, and SGA.

Thurs., Feb. 18
8 p.m., University Center.
The Causes and Consequences of Prejudices.  This forum, sponsored by Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of UTC, will explore some basic cause and effect
behaviors that create prejudicial attitudes.

Fri., Feb. 19
7 p.m., Central City Complex, 730 East M. L. King Blvd.
Author, Poet, Essayist Nikki Giovanni Speaks.  Nikki Giovanni is an
outspoken author, poet, essayist, and professor of English.  Giovanni
remains committed to the fight for civil rights and equality in education.

Tues., Feb. 23
7 p.m., University Center
Are African-American Students Graduating from UTC?  Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc. is sponsoring this forum to discuss the current trends of
African-American students at UTC, including their admissions,
matriculation, and graduation.
