Colleagues,

I regret to inform the UTC community that George Connor, Professor Emeritus
of English and friend and colleague to many of us, died this morning at
Erlanger Hospital at the age of 81. George taught at UTC (formerly the
University of Chattanooga) from 1959 until his retirement in 1985. He
served as head of the Department of English from 1963 to 1969. The funeral
will be on Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The time of the service
should be announced in an article and obituary to appear in tomorrow's
paper.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the
George Connor Professorship of American Literature at UTC, the
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library, or St. Paul's Episcopal
Church.
