K,

I've seen this guy, and he's unbelievable. I know John has to work, but if
you get a chance, this is well worth the effort.

Sandip Burman is possibly the most recorded and most celebrated tabla
drummer in the world. Tabla drums are the small hand drums which
form the rhythmic basis for all East Indian classical music. He has
recorded or performed live with Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, Bela
Fleck, Jack DeJonette, Max Roach, Glen Velez, Alex Acuna, and others
far too numerous to mention. He is also a noted teacher of Indian
classical music, and has taught clinics on the complex rhythmic
structure of this music at most of the large universities in the
U.S., and was a featured performer at the Percussive Arts Society
International Convention in November, 2003.

It is my pleasure to invite you and your students to a concert of
Indian Classical music by Sandip Burman and vocalist Sima Burman at
the Hayes Concert Hall on the UTC campus at 8:00 on Tuesday, April 6.
Please do not miss this chance to hear this renowned virtuoso of
non-Western music! The program is free and the public is invited to
attend.

The performance is presented by the UTC Cadek Music Department and
the Tennessee Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.

For more information, call the UTC Percussion Office at 425-4647.
