Colleagues,

The Philosophy and Religion Department is proud to announce that one of its newest members has won a distinguished -- and highly competitive -- award. Please join us in celebrating an achievement that brings recogniton to the entire university community. The particulars:

Dr. Brian Ribeiro has been awarded the 2004 Rockefeller Prize. The Rockefeller Prize is a national prize awarded once every two years by the American Philosophical Association for the best unpublished article-length paper by a philosopher who does not enjoy a tenure-track academic position at the time the paper is submitted. Since receiving the award Dr. Ribeiro has accepted a tenure-track position here at UTC. He reports that he is honored by the award, but very happy no longer to be eligibile for it.

Dr. Ribeiro will be one of the honorees at a special
prize reception at this year's Eastern Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association. The reception will take place on December 28, 2004 at the conference in Boston, MA. The paper submission that was honored with this award ("Skeptical Parasitism and the Continuity Argument")is currently forthcoming in METAPHILOSOPHY 35 (2004).
