It is with deep sorrow that we announce Professor Anne Pei-Yu Ho Ch'ien
passed away peacefully on June 17, 2007, surrounded by love and her
family. Professor Chi'en received her diploma in nursing from Taichung
School of Nursing in Taichung, Taiwan, her Bachelor and Master of
Science in Nursing from UT Memphis with a concentration in Community
Health and Family Nursing. Professor Ch'ien served as a faculty member
in the School of Nursing from 1984 - 2007. She was instrumental in the
foundation of the Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration in the School
of Nursing. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, the
Tennessee Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and the UT Alumni
Association.

She published numerous articles with her husband, Dr. Lawrence Ch'ien,
in the field of neurology, as well as with faculty and students in the
School of Nursing in areas related to advanced practice. She served as
first author on multiple professional papers, was a book reviewer for
Mosby, and had written and received multiple Instructional Excellence
Grants, the most recent being one for a Case Study Program for the FNP
concentration. She served as a reviewer for the Journal of the American
Academy of Nurse Practitioners and was a Scholarship and Grant Reviewer
for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation from 1999
until her death.

As a founding member of the Chattanooga Area Nurses in Advanced Practice
(CANAP), her service to our community was honored when a scholarship in
her name was begun. The scholarship is awarded twice a year to a Family
Nurse Practitioner Student who is a member of the organization and is
enrolled fulltime in an FNP program. The scholarship is given to the
student who best represents the high ideals which Professor Ch'ien
embodied as an educator and family nurse practitioner.

A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 am
in Patten Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the UTC
Development Office, Dept. 6806, in memory of Anne Ch'ien.
