With all due respect to the Renee Long's announcement that Office 2000 is
available in the Bookstore, I would urge caution before rushing out to
purchase Office 2000 for University computers. While it is always exciting
to have the very latest and newest software, most experts will counsel you
to wait until the software and its support structure is a bit more mature.

Major corporations are decidedly unenthusiastic about Office 2000, largely
because of the huge costs of supporting new software that adds features
most people don't need. To quote PC Magazine, "They like what it can
do--and they think it's something they can do just fine without."

Be advised that the UTC Computing Help Desk and Microcomputing Training do
not support Office 2000 at this time. If you wish to purchase the product,
we wish you luck, but please do not contact us yet for support or training.
When a proper support structure is in place, we will let the campus know.
