>                               Metropolitan College
>
>The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) seeks an innovative
leader for a newly conceived Metropolitan College.  This College Dean will
join other academic deans in the continued development of program quality
and access.

>The mission of the UTC Metropolitan College is to lead development of
programs that serve the existing and emerging needs of the people of
Tennessee in metropolitan clusters not only in Chattanooga, but in other
areas of the state as well.  The Dean will lead partnerships for innovative
access to higher education among business, industry, community, and other
educational entities.  The Dean will broker and encourage applied research
appropriate to metropolitan demand.  The Dean will facilitate interactions
of academic and professional expertise to help improve the quality of life
in metropolitan areas of Tennessee.  The Dean will expand off-campus
instructional sties and encourage innovative delivery by electronic and
other means.

>The Dean will be charged with bringing expertise and energy to a vision of
connecting the intellectual resources of the University and the community
to the emerging and changing needs of metropolitan areas.  In addition to
the requirement of providing services previously not available, the
Metropolitan College will continue to include Continuing Education, Adult
Education Services, Co-Operative Education, and International Study Programs.

>The successful candidate will have earned the doctorate with credentials
suitable for both university faculty teaching as well as the academic
deanship.  Moreover, the successful candidate will have demonstrated
progressive university or community-based experience in development and
delivery of academic programs or institutional service partnerships.  The
successful candidate will have demonstrated personnel management, budget
management, developing of significant accomplishments of institutional
goals working with local, state, and national communities and governmental
organizations, and a significant record of attracting specific resources in
a metropolitan setting.

>UTC is a metropolitan institution, one of four primary campuses of the
University of Tennessee, and has an enrollment of 7,105 undergraduate and
1,380 graduate students.  Its 100-acre campus is located in Chattanooga, a
mid-sized city that has been featured in US News and World Report and
Parade as one of America's most livable cities.  This family-friendly city
has gained international attention for its downtown and riverfront
development, public and private partnerships, excellent quality of life and
reasonable living costs.  The campus is in the revitalized downtown area
and has been an integral partner in the nationally recognized renaissance
of Chattanooga.  The university's private endowment, currently valued at
more than $100 million, enables UTC to maintain academic excellence beyond
that funded by the state appropriations.
