I just wanted to thank Mary for mentioning the Donation Drive for this
weekend. We plan to have the collection jars today at the Krystal's event
and I'm in the process of talking with the coaches about accepting the $1
per burger challenge.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is keep things as normal as possible
while still doing what we each can to help. There are extraordinary
measures taking place in our own community to help those terribly affected
by this disaster. I'd like to make TODAY one of those efforts.

I was the Service-Learning/Community Service specialist at Marshall
University for several years and I know that each one of us can really make
a difference in MANY different ways. Let's hope that Krystal's can do their
part, like so many other corporations and organizations are doing. I think
by having today's event, we can have some GOOD come from it, not just to
serve as a distraction for the tragedy.

Well said Rodger. With thousands of people starving is unconceivable to have
a hamburger eating contest. I ask all students NOT to participate in this
event. I heard in the news that there maybe students trapped in Xavier
University. Let's hope they have food to get them through.

I would like to remind everyone that Athletic Department will be staffing a
cash collection at the Football Game this weekend. All of the proceeds will
go directly to the Red Cross designated for Hurricane Relief for Louisiana
and Mississippi.

I join Jim Henry in calling upon the Krystal Corporation and our own
University to re-orient this event to help the more than a million people in
desperate need just a short day's drive from Chattanooga.

To hold this event while people are literally starving to death nearby would
be enough to turn my stomach for years to come.

Oh how I hate to respond to a UTCSTAFF topic.

and

I am sad to hear of this exhibition of excess.
"Gustatory" means relating to sense of taste.
This really is not related to taste, but to gluttony.

Please let me know how many Krystals are scarfed
tomorrow and I will donate $1 per each one to the
Katrina Relief Fund through the Red Corss.

Would Steve Sloan, Rodney Allison, Wes Moore, John Shulman,
Scott McMahen, Gary Haskew, Cowboy Joe and Jeff Romero
care to join me?
