The UTC Walker Teaching Resource Center has licensed "Surviving and
Thriving in Your First Online Course"-the first in a program of the 2001 -
2002 PBS Teleconference Series "Instructional Technology Survival Skills:
A 'How-to' Series for Faculty."

The program will be offered LIVE on October 18, 2:30 - 4:00 pm in the UTC
University Center Tennessee Room.

Program topics will include what to include in a syllabi, technical
considerations, time-saving strategies, handling e-mail, using FAQs, what
to do in the first weeks of the course to minimize later problems, how to
anticipate and handle technical problems, helping first-time online
students and ways to deal with "problem" students.

There is a companion web site for the teleconference at:
http://telelearning.dcccd.edu/FirstOnlineCourse/default.htm

The web site supplements the live teleconference with more material and
interactivity and includes a detailed description, supplemental articles
and readings, and an opportunity to e-mail questions to the panelists
before the event. The pages are updated regularly as the air date
approaches,

I hope you will join us for the live event. In the event that you can't, a
tape of the program will be available for check out from the Walker
Teaching Resource Center, 401 Hunter Hall.
