Kim Wheetley, Director and Chair of Excellence in the Southeast Center of
Education in the Arts, has been working in Hollywood where he has been
contracted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to serve as a
consultant and framework writer to convene a series of meetings with
educators and Academy governors to develop a conceptual framework for
"Learning and Teaching Through the Arts and Sciences of Television." The
project is funded by the Getty Education Institute for the Arts.

In April, Kim presented a workshop at the Getty Center in Los Angeles on
discipline-based arts education for the new Arts in Teaching and Teacher
Education initiative. This project, which is funded by John Goodlad's
Institute for Education Inquiry and the Getty Education Institute for the
Arts, unites eight universities in an effort to marry school reform
initiatives with comprehensive arts education to transform elementary teacher
training.

In late June, Kim will join Jeffrey Patchen, former SCEA director, to present
a workshop on Getty's regional institutes at a national "In Praise of
Education" conference conducted by John Goodlad's Institute for Education
Inquiry in Seattle.

Please join the Office of Grants and Program Review in congratulating Kim
on these achievements and in expressing our gratitude for the manner in
which he represents UTC.
