Dr. Betsy Darken, Associate Professor of Mathematics, has received a
contract of $9,548 from Clemson University to conduct statistical work in
support of a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to that institution.
Dr. Darken will to analyze data as part of Clemson's NSF grant "Impact of
Calculus Reform on Long-term Student Performance." Her responsibilities
will be to organize and synthesize the registrar data analyses from the six
institutions participating in the grant program and determine trends,
develop tables, and perform a meta-analysis on the data.
Dr. Darken will communicate with six sets of evaluators to develop
papers about the research. She also will assist grant program staff in
analyzing other data by performing a factor analysis of the survey data,
interpreting the results of the factor analysis, and providing input on the
qualitative interview data. Her participation in the grant evaluation
process will last the entire spring semester, and her work will be
essential in helping project personnel evaluate the success of their
program.
Congratulations to Dr. Darken! Being selected to analyze Clemson's NSF
program demonstrates the high regard in which you are held in the
mathematics community.
