There was a guy that did that to several of the nursing faculty. He was
told to leave.

In addition, about two months ago there was a man whom was wondering
around looking into doors on my floor. I asked him what he was doing, he
said that he was "looking to buy books" then proceeded to enter my
office and go even further into our student record room. I, at that
time, got aggravated because no one but faculty or staff is allowed into
this room. He was looking everything over very carefully........ Too
carefully in my opinion.

There is a major theft problem on our campus. Why should these people be
allowed to roam our campus, even if they are legit. It is called
SOLICITATION! It is against campus policy.

In my humble opinion I believe everyone should wear his or her UTC ID,
visible at all times. Not that this would completely stop the problem,
but it would help to detour them and make them more noticeable. The
thieves blend in too well. When is this going to stop?

Working directly across the street from where convicted felons check in
with their parole officers this would make me feel just a little bit
safer.

Just my 2 cents.....................

I have had two different individuals who identified themselves as book
buyers who acted the same way, except that they did not refer to another
department. When they knocked on my door and identified themselves as
book buyers, I immediately responded that I never resell books that I
have received as desk copies and that I offer old editions of
instructional texts to students. Both of them came on into my office
and began taking books off of my shelves even after I had notified them
that I never sell used books. At the time, I just considered the
behavior rude. But in light of this information, perhaps it was more
than that. Thanks for the heads up. Has anyone else in Davenport Hall
experienced the same thing?

I think the same person came to my office in Metro last week (Friday?).
He walked in, went over to my bookshelf and started taking books down
and looking at them. He said he was an "independent book buyer" and
offered me $15 for a new set of books, still in wrappers. I told him I
wasn't interested and told him I had to go to a meeting and escorted him
out. I didn't think anything of it at the time, as there are book buyers
who do come by regularly; however, now that you mention it- it was kind
of odd, esp. since I didn't see him approach any other office. I guess
we all have to be more alert :( Gerry Ann Bosworth -----Original

Subject: [UTCSTAFF] Prowler Alert!!

The following incident happened around 1:30 PM on Tuesday, yesterday.
This notice was broadcast to our departments and Dr. Lee Harris
suggested that we pass this information along to all UTC departments:

ALERT!!! ALERT!!! ALERT!!!

A DAYTIME PROWLER WAS SPOTTED IN CADEK HALL ON YESTERDAY, TUES. 11/14/06

A white male, 30ish, about 6" tall, short neat light brown hair -

balding on top, light-colored eyes, medium-thick build,

 short-sleeved salmon-colored polo shirt & Khakis-dark shoes

approached the Cadek Office posing as a student looking for the
"Professors'
Offices" because he wanted to buy books. He said the Music Dept sent
him over. Ann dismissed him by telling him there were no professors'
offices in this building and that he was in the wrong place for buying
books. He proceeded down the hall toward the lobby and was observed
trying the doorknobs of the offices 212, 213, 215, and so on. When he
noticed he was being watched, he exited down the hall by room 210. The
campus police were called. By the time they searched the building. he
was gone. The Music Dept said that he had done the same in the Fine
Arts building. THEY DID NOT SEND HIM TO CADEK HALL.

BE AWARE!!! LOCK YOUR DOORS!!
