Faculty, Staff, and Students:

We know you are aware of the uncertainty involving next year's state
budget. Because of this uncertainty and the possibility that the General
Assembly will not approve a budget by June 30, it is essential that we make
contingency plans for potentially curtailing or shutting down some
University activities and services.

In the spirit of shared governance, we pledge to keep faculty, staff and
students informed during this crucial period for the State and the
University. I have empowered the Chancellors and Vice Presidents to plan
prudently for the continuation of services at whatever level is necessary
and appropriate.

I shall continue to work closely with the Governor and the Legislature to
assure the interests of our students, faculty, staff, and community receive
appropriate attention.

I shall continue to communicate with you through broadcast e-mails, as well
as the news media, regarding the status of this situation. I thank each of
you for your commitment to the interests and welfare of this University.
