Please be reminded that Professor Stephen Lewinter is the first speaker for the fall segment of our UC Foundation-supported Asia presentations. Lewinter, who is a member of the Art Department, will speak tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14 from 12:00–1:00 at the University Center 206 Auditorium. A description of his presentation is below. Please encourage interested students and staff to attend. It is also open to the public.

The Japanese search for a national identity is a complex, ongoing process that often demonstrates contradictory inclinations and extremes. How do contemporary Japanese artists respond to the challenge of examining this issue of identity in the 21st Century? How do some of these artists define identity?
