Hello Boris,

thank you very much for your letter. Fortunately for Baton Rouge, there was
little physical damage due to the storm, however we have to deal with
refugees in the hundreds of thousands from New Orleans, which is completely
evacuated. This will be a long-term problem. I think the affects will be
felt more and more as time goes on, and things will not feel normal for a
long while. I do not have close family in the affected areas, but many
people here do, of course, and LSU has suspended operations until next
Tuesday; hopefully there will be some return to normalty. I haven't been
able to talk to very many people in the department yet; I think for many of
them this is going to turn out to be the worst experience of their lives
because of their connections to New Orleans and other affected areas in LA,
AL, and especially MS. This certainly true of some of my friends here.
