The 2nd Annual New Partners for Smart Growth conference is coming to the
Sheraton in New Orleans, Louisiana, January 30 - February 1, 2003.  The
focus of the conference is forming  new networks and creating new levels
of understanding among multiple smart-growth  interests.  The conference
will provide education and resources, as well as cutting-edge
implementation tools and networking opportunities.

Well-known speakers, including Andres Duany, livable communities planner
Victor Dover, and Robert Liberty will address sessions.  Elected
officials will give their views, as well as the best in the business
from the fields of planning, transportation, health, equity and public
health and safety.

The agenda includes sessions on:
- What Smart Growth Funders look for in proposals
- A better handle on creating rural smart growth
- Public safety  techniques to make more livable communities
- Retro-fitting "greyfields" and suburban strip centers
- Getting the most out of transportation systems
- Getting Public Health professionals' attention about solutions
Plus more on transit, smarter schools, regional solution and information
for local officials.

In-depth workshops focus on:
- How to conduct a charrette
- Skills building - becoming an influential advocate in your community
- Overcoming entrenched opposition to smart growth projects
- Dealing with outdated codes and standards
- Bringing Vacant properties back to life
