Web link news:
After input from faculty and staff, a new web page URL naming
standard is being introduced at UTC.  The goal is to provide
a standard location for publishing links, bookmarks, favorites,
shortcuts, etc. for campus web pages.  The first standard will be
for the use of personal web pages and eliminates the use of
the tilde (~) in these pages.

All faculty pages will be published under:
http://www.utc.edu/Faculty/First-Last/

All staff pages will appear under:
http://www.utc.edu/Staff/First-Last/

A similar standard will be announced soon for student web pages
and we are working on standards for departments and services.

The "First-Last" is the same as in your UTC e-mail address.

Please use this new standard when announcing your pages or when
others link to your pages.

Two examples:
http://www.utc.edu/Staff/Dan-Chase/
http://www.utc.edu/Faculty/Jim-Henry/

We will maintain these URL publishing standards going into the future
through any changes in the name of the actual server (e.g. cecasun,
onenet, etc.) used to store the pages or the use of multiple actual
servers. No matter where the pages are stored, the goal is for the
standard link from www.utc.edu/ to work to go to the pages.

Watch for another UTCSTAFF message soon about moving your pages from
cecasun to OneNet.  Once your web pages are on OneNet and you are
satisfied with them at: http://oneweb.utc.edu/~First-Last/ (note the
tilde is used here), please e-mail [log in to unmask] or call 425-4000
to request enabling the new www.utc.edu/Staff or www.utc.edu/Faculty
URL standard to work for access to your web pages.  If you have your
web site on another campus server, you may also request the new
standard URL be linked to your site.

Any web requests of the old form www.utc.edu/~utcid is
automatically translated into the new standard.
