Mr. Booker Scruggs, Director of UTC’s Upward Bound program, has received
$279,496 from the U.S. Department of Education to continue this
long-standing program for four more years.

The Upward Bound program at UTC serves 65 low-income, potential
first-generation college-bound youths, including students from the Howard
School for Academics and Technology, Brainerd High School, and East Ridge
High School. Mr. Scruggs and Upward Bound staff lead these students in
tutoring and academic enrichment, college preparation and financial aid
assistance, summer residential experiences on campus at UTC, and
recreational activities to promote achievement. With these activities, Mr.
Scruggs and staff hope to motivate and encourage students to complete high
school and enroll in post-secondary programs.

Congratulations to Mr. Scruggs! The continuation of this Upward Bound
program is important to the academic success of many students in the
Chattanooga area.
