Kim Wheetley of the Southeast Center for Education in the Arts (SCEA) has
received $27,720 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to support
SCEA's annual Multi-Arts Renewal Institute. This five-day professional
development program is designed for K-12 teachers and principals who have
previously participated in SCEA's institutes for discipline-based art,
music, or theater education.

This year's Institute topic will be: "Whose Art is it Anyway: Rethinking
Native
American Cultures in the Arts Curriculum."

During the Institute, teachers will engage in active inquiry to explore
issues of appropriation and authenticity of Native American culture in the
school curriculum. Visual arts, dance, music, and theater units of study
will introduce participants to a concept of diversity that challenges
social stereotypes.

Congratulations to Kim and SCEA on this honor!
