Movie enthusiasts will recall one of the first things Gen. Jack D. Ripper
(Sterling Hayden) did when he took over the army base in _Doctor
Strangelove_ was to confiscate all radios and forbid troops under his
command to listen to broadcasting that he knew would have the intent of
deceiving them and sapping their precious bodily fluids.  With that in
