TO: Any department thinking of certifying a course for Gen Ed,
or submitting a plan to integrate oral communication,
intensive writing, or computer literacy
FROM: Betsy Darken, Chair of the General Education Committee
RE: Deadlines, Procedures, and Cover Sheets
A. DEADLINES
Departments interested in receiving general education certification in time
to get listed in the 2000-2001 catalog need to submit proposals to the
General Education Committee as follows:
(1) Proposals involving MODIFIED or NEW courses -- including single
courses and integration plans:
Submit 15 copies for the General Education Committee to Elizabeth
Bailey
(108 Race) by **December 1, 1999**. (The Curriculum Committee will
need the proposal by January 10, 2000, in time for approval by the
Faculty Council.)
(2) Proposals involving UNMODIFIED courses or an integration plan
involving unmodified courses:
Submit 15 copies for the General Education Committee to Elizabeth
Bailey
(108 Race) by **January 26, 2000**.
Integration plans and courses certified after these dates will not be
listed as such in the 1999-2000 UTC Catalog.
...It's a good thing we're all so well educated, else we'd get confused by
all these deadlines....
B. FORMS AND PROCEDURES
Just what you've all been waiting for! The General Education has developed:
(a) a new and improved cover sheet for course certifications, and
(b) new and improved procedures and cover sheet for integration plans.
All of this information is contained on the general education website under
"Certification of Courses". You can access these via the UTC home page or
directly at:
Course certification cover sheet:
http://www.utc.edu/GeneralEd/GECovSht.pdf
Integration plan procedures and cover sheet:
http://www.utc.edu/GeneralEd/GEIntCovSht.pdf
Thanks to the magnificent Karen Adsit, the cover sheets are interactive.
This means that you can fill them out onscreen! You can go online and
complete them and then print them out completed except for signatures and
approvals. [I bet the next development will be onscreeen signatures....]
Signed,
Your General Education Committee, Hard At Work Improving the System [a.k.a.
