Campus Academic and Faculty Advisors:

 

I'd like to clarify the need for major departments to complete the Advising
Checklists that student athletes will have with them during their advising
session.  I developed these forms several years ago to ensure that academic
departments have a better understanding of the NCAA Bylaws with regard to
"Progress toward degree" and "degree applicability" of courses student
athletes will being advised to take.  These forms will remain as a part of
the student file for my office and will aid our efforts in developing
Academic Eligibility profiles for each student athlete.

 

This form is also a part of my initiative to streamline the Advising
Services component of Athletic Student Services.  The accountability "paper
trail" is an integral part of developing open communication between the
academic department and the Athletic Services Office and ensuring that
students are being positively directed toward classes that will retain their
eligibility and move them toward degree attainment.  

 

I appreciate your cooperation and partnership in our new initiatives and
look forward to working with the campus community to move our Athletic
Academic Services in a new direction.
