OVERVIEW AND PROGRAM:
Web sites need to anticipate the user's
expectations and choose appropriate design
elements that make it easy to find and use
information. Designing the perfect home page,
effective navigation, organization and structure
for a web site is a challenging process. How do
you know that your site works and is easy to use?
What works best? There is a mountain of research
studies about web site usability and
effectiveness. Don't spend your time inventing a
new wheel – learn from these studies. Pick up
best practices and techniques that you can use to
ensure you have "user-focused" and effective site
design. Avoid the pitfalls of designing for what
users say they like by watching what they
actually do.
This series will provide information and
strategies for designing effective web sites
based on findings from usability studies and
research into user behavior. Learn how to apply
this research to the design, organization, layout
and creation of content and interactive services
on your own web site. The topics covered in the
series will focus on the usability and
credibility of your home page, creating
compelling and effective content for pages in
your site, and how to create out usability tests
of your site to identify and correct problems.
Learn techniques and methods for optimizing your
university or college site to achieve your
business goals and the user's goals. Hear about
real life examples of testing of higher education
web sites.
This web conference series will bring you and
your staff a wealth of practical information that
can be put to use immediately. It will stimulate
discussion and planning for new web projects.
All three sessions will be offered on the UTC campus.
