Two new email viruses have been spreading rapidly over the Internet due
to user error. There are three very simple rules that all email users
should follow:
1. NEVER open any attachment that you are not expecting. Email "From:"
fields can be forged. It is no longer safe to judge an attachment by
its file extension. Files that end in ".gif", ".zip", and ".jpg" are
not guaranteed to be that type of file. I can not say this strongly
enough, DO NOT OPEN UNKNOWN ATTACHMENTS. EVER! No matter what OS you
are running.
2. NEVER open emails with strange Subject lines. There are viruses
that can infect a Windows PC by just viewing the email. The best
course of action is to delete them.
3. Have a fully functional and updated antivirus software running.
There are several good choices available, some for no cost. If you
don't have it, please get some antivirus software for your PC and
update it at least once a month.
