tomato paste waved over that, then another layer of pastry with tomato

top covered in sliced cheese. No herbs, ricotta cheese, any type of
vegetable ie carrot, onion. Was like eating cardboard that had been soaked
in tomato sauce. I had 2nds of the accompanying vegies to tide me over - a
tray of sliced tomato and a tray of deep fried battered onion rings.

That was not lasagna.  At best, it was lasagna noodles in marinara sauce.  At worst, it sounds like a good way to make it easy to stick with a diet.
