This is more of a boating question that a diving question. My wife and I
dive quite a lot in the Gulf off the florida panhandle, most of the time out
of Panama City. We are thinking of purchasing a boat to be used mainly for
diving. We are tired of being at the mercy of dive operators who pack 20+
divers on a boat. We think we would really enjoy the freedom to go out and
dive when we want, where we want and with who we want. This is strictly a
conveniece thing and I realize I will be spend far more money than going
with dive operators or charters. My question if for you boat owners out
there, what types and brands of boats do you use in the gulf? I'm thinking
something in the 25' - 28' foot range, center console, with outboards and
must be trailerable. Is this size and type of boat big enough and safe
enough to be 10 -15 miles out in the gulf? I've heard and read a lot about
Boston Whaler and Grady White boats. I'm leaning towards used, but not more
than 7 - 10 years old. I'm really looking for opinions and experiences from
personal boaters in the Gulf of Mexico. I welcome and appreciate any
comments.
