The word "Carcharias" rang a distant bell of one of about three
"dangerous" sharks, and I thought the sand tiger was just a tame
pussy cat of a fish. So, *I* went to the web, and found THIS
curiosity in ichthyological etymology and taxonomy. :-)

"carcharias" is indeed associalted with the fearsome "White", in
the Carcharodon species, while the sand tiger is in the
"Carcharias" species.

But the commonly feared Tiger is not a member of either species, but
one in "Galeocerdo"!

Very familiar with "glucosamine + chondroitin".

About 2 years ago, I was experiencing some lingring shoulder pain
that I thought might be a symptom associated with some blockage of
veins (of which I had a double-bypass in 1992). A mis-diagnosis
by a Quack (tm) in South Carolina led me voluntarily to the chief
Cardiologist Dr. Morris (of a team of 40 at Emory, ATL) who gave me
a 3-hr thorough examination and a clean bill of health and a very
dirty bill of $10,000+. (I might have mentioned this once in my
posts about Quacks -- not Dr. Morris, but the SC cardiologist and
other Quacks).

At any rate, that was what led me to try to glucosamine + chondroitin
over-the-counter drug that comes in the form of pills, capsules, and
even chewable flavored candy. These suckers must have gotten such
a good "it worked for me" ads by users that K-Mart and Walmart
were selling them at about $40-$50 for a month's supply, and of
course they are NOT covered by medical insurance.

Unwilling to dish out that much for something advertised to be
"untested by the FDA" for effectiveness etc ... I followed the
advice of someone who told me that the SAME bottles can be bought
at Flea Markets at a fraction of the over-the-counter costs,
such as $5 for a $50 bottle. :-) Sure enough, they worked --
for me, TOO.

I don't take them now. But if I resume, I would head for a Flea
Market for them. Some of the Flea Market bottles may have an
expiration date right at, or slight over, your purchase date, but
they work just as well. :))

Just call me Ex-Galeocerdo chrondroitin for being a former
(Clemson) Tiger.

>Many swear by the stuff -- seems to work for me.

Me too. Another reason for more shark's fin soup? ......... duck. :-)
