LOL! The word Virgin reminded of a funny incident while diving off Walindi
Plantation, PNG. We had gone out to a certain pinnacle to hunt for (in the
photographic & video sense) hammerhead sharks. Alas, we went down, down &
futher down not seeing one shark :-( We still enjoyed the dive though as
it was a great profile dive back up to the surface .. just going round &
round getting higher each time & firing off our cameras, etc at interesting
sea critters. At the top were lots of moral eels, anemonefish and wonderful
sea fans watched over by schools of barracuda and big-eye jacks. It was on
our return back to the resort the fun started.

A school of dolphins were racing us and it was a common thing for a couple
of snorkellers to go into the water holding on to a rope that was hooked on
to the bow. The boat would then cruise along slowly enough for the
snorkeller, ensuring their mask did not get washed off .. but fast enough
to keep the dolphins interested so you could see them uw live a few feet in
front of your face. The big joke was that the dolphins would only stick
around for virgins. Of course Max Benjamin was enjoying the reaction from
the guys on that comment .. the men were falling over with laughter while
looking at us. I chirped back to them "dont see any virgins on your side
mate" before slipping overboard into the warm water for a joyful session
with the dolphins. I could hear them clicking & squealing uw .. they would
swap places constantly and on moving back to make room for the swap would
just about end up face to face side on or below you. It is one experience I
will cherish forever.
