Michi must not use Continental or Delta either. :-)

But thanks to this discussion, I SAVED at least $500 USD -- on
my own further investigation, TODAY!

My freebie LAX-AUK; SYD-LAX was all Qantas, peasant class,
because no foist class freebies were available. And I had
intended to book the ATL-LAX on CO, either foist freebie or
coach upgrade to foist free.

Because of the really stringent BAGGAGE allowance on Qantas
(ONE bag of 20 kg), I phoned to change my freebie to foist
if available (would have cost only 140K more CO FFMs for 2)
<the answer was negative> and in the course of considering
the OTHER option of raising the baggage allowance by tagging
on the ATL-LAX on CO, I found out that Qantas had changed
its bloody rule (in 2002) of allowing CO baggage allowance
to hold on connecting flights on Qantas -- it's NOW the
SMALLER of the allowances -- which means Qantas's ONE bag
or 20 kg <hey Michi -- this is updating the 2006 info for
you <G> no matter what the connecting flight are!> --
as long as one flies QANTAS peasant class -- it's ONE
checked bag of 20 kg and carry-on of 7 kg. >

So, how did I save at least $500 USD?

Glad you asked. :-) Thanks to my FREEBIE tickie rule on CO,
whatever connecting flight I use to connect the Qantas FREEBIE
(which I already had), is FREE, with the same FFM I already
used to book the Qantas freebie.

That's TWO roundtrip tickies ATL-LAX (which I assume would
cost at least $500 USD if I had to pay for them) was added
on this afternoon, on direct flights on DELTA (without
having to stop in IAH had it been CO flights).

The latter turned out to be a corollary of CO freebies
booked through CO. I have now booked at least FOUR such
connections (where BOTH Continental and its pardners fly)
-- CO always put me on it pardner's flights. :-) Reason:
I use my CO FFM (which would have cost CO money if I took
seats they could use for REVENUE tickies) but costs CO
nothing if they put me on their PARDNER's flights. <That's
called "screws yo pardner" in airlinese!> <BG>

On my San Juan (Puerto Rico) flights <which I had to cancel>
it even cost me LESS Continental FFMs to fly Delta First Class
than flying Continental coach!! And from ATL to LAX, they
put me on First Class on Delta and from Seattle to ATL, First
Class on NorthWest (all for the same CO FFMs had I flown CO).

The where, now, and what of flying ain't what it used to be
when everyone was flying the "friendly skies". :-) Now it's
Dog eats Dog to see who goes bankrupt foist!

No longer!! They may not throw them out, they now would charge
for any allowance on Qantas over the Qantas allowance -- which
comes to a NET loss of (140 - 44) or 96 lbs of checked baggage
PER PERSON.

>>Get a decent TA.

LOL! I have just proved that I am the most decent TA for mahself. :-)

So, I am now bracing myself for traveling naked during the
4 weeks in Auckland, NZ; cruise to Sydney; and Sydney! :-)
Glad it'll be summer time thar.
