Oy, Strike & Viv!

I have to ask a question that has been bothering me for a long time.
While I fully admit to being language challenged, speaking only a broken
form of American, understanding little of the Kings english, and only a
muddling bit of Kiwi- and Oz-speak, I occasionally need someone to
'splain' to me how to say a word.

There are few things more embarrassing to me than finding out weeks (or
years) later after reading a favorite book, that you have a completely
screwed up idea about the pronunciation of a character's name or the
name of a place. Case in point: I understand fully the meaning,
significance, and pronunciation of the word 'Mate'. Although I
understand the meaning and significance of the word 'Matette', how the
&%$# do you pronounce it? :-) Perhaps a phone call is in order, or if
you could direct me to an mp3 file. Please do not abandon me in this
sad state of phonetical ignorance.

Sincerely confused,
Russ
