Kat Blessin rocked into town last week and joined us for this morning's dive
to .... Shelly Beach! :-)
It was a beautiful, hot and sunny morning when, together with Julian, Ralf,
John Bird and five of the other regulars, we hit the water for Kat's first
dive at the place that Huw referred to as, "the Wembley of diving"! :-)
Sadly it wasn't at it's best. The visibility was milky and there seemed to
be an unusual amount of loose seaweeds littering the sand. Nevertheless Kat
was first to spot two nudibranchs as well as one of the two wobbegongs that
we found hiding under the rock ledges.
Swimming out to Dragon Patches, we spotted a couple of seadragons before
heading back in over the rocky reef where schools of ladder-finned pomfrets,
yellowtail and those reddish things with big, buggy eyes were swarming.
One of the eastern blue grouper swam up to say, "G'Day" and allowed Kat to
pat it.
As ever, there was post-dive coffee and Tim-Tams. It may not have been the
best of conditions but the company provided ample compensation! :-)
