In the end, IMO, it is all BS. In the end, DIR will not become the industry
standard simply because it will keep people from spending money on diving.
They will not be fit enough, will not measure up to the DIR standards, do
not want to conform, whatever the reason. Diving is a sport where money
talks and bullshit walks. PADI knows that (and to a lesser extent NAUI) and
pander to the market place. DIR does not and will fail to become the
standard for that reason. But... that is all IMO.
Is there one right way? The observational evidence suggests not. Is there
one wrong way? Clearly not.
Don't get the idea I support PADI - I dont. I dropped my PADI membership a
couple of years ago.
