It is getting close to Xmas pressie time and I am looking at a few books as
stocking fillers or one-offs for special dive buddy mates.

Has anyone on the list read this book? Beyond The Deep by William Stone
and Barbara Am Enden, with Monte Paulsen.

Just received a short writeup about the book from Peter Stone of Ocean
Enterprises which states (and spellun mistooks are all Peter's too :-)
The Huautla cave in Mexico is probably the deepest system in the world.
Shafts rach down to enormous depths, with huge stadium-sized caverns. The
author’s 44-member team entered the sinkhole at Sotano de San Augustin, the
first camp being 2328 ft below ground level. The second camp was
established at the iunction of two subterranean rivers met. Nobody had gone
further and survived, except for Bill Stone and Barabara Am Ende, who
forged on for no less than eighteen days.
Dr. William Stone is the engineer who invented the Cis-Lunar rebreather, a
life-support backpack that allows divers to stay underwater for up to 24
hours. Dr Am Ende is a geologist. Paulsen is a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Not being a cave diver myself I was wondering if it was worth it as a
little xmas pressie for a friend from Bunbury who will soon be doing his
cave diving cert across the Nullabor. He is still chomping at the bit to
get his drysuit from the east also .. unfortunately had the misfortune of
having his zip break on his semi-dry while gearing up to lead a group of
divers that were on the same boat we dived off on the Swan wreck late last
month.
