Russ,

I played around with a piece of line today and also came to the
conclusion that 6' should be about right. It doesn't hang exactly the
same way as a hose under pressure des, but it's close enough to see how
it would work.

We're in the same position exactly with regard to having extraordinary
spouses/significant others who had tired worn-out BCs. Now Sandy has
a Halcyon and so do I - but she's the only one of us who can justify
the upgrade. I think my Seaquest would have gone on for as many or more
years than I will. (As it happens, we're also diving basically the
same regs you are too. And the "underlying structure" of the equipment
buying decision-making process sounds eerily similar to ours as well.)

Hi Robert,

[snip]

So, now I'm diving with a 6' footer and all is well with the world. I
guess I should have remembered the story of the Three Bears and skipped
expense of the extra hoses...the middle sized one was juuuuuusst right!
:-) Danna, my daughter, switched to this configuration at the same
time
and ..[snip].. We're both happy now and, as you can tell from this
anecdote,
are in complete agreement with what Lee and Strike have reported.

My wife Elisa started thinking about a new regulator recently and, me
being the gear slut that I am, wasted no time in replacing her seven
year old Maximus with a MK25/G6000/R380 with necklace and long
hose...sweet! The backplate and wings vs jacket BC makes much sense to
me and harkened back to the BC-less days of the late 60's when I
started
diving.

But, it takes a long time for a ScubaPro Classic to wear out and my
lusting for the BP & wings over came my patience. Fortunately, Elisa's
Diva BC was a bit 'long in the tooth' (velcro for the weight pouches
wearing out, etc), so 'we' <BWG> thought that this would be the perfect
time to replace both with a Halcyon aluminum plates and 27# wings. :-)
You should all be so lucky to have a wife like mine! <BBWWG> Thanks
again to you Lee for all your assistance. So, for our CAIV2002NEDfest
trip I'll not be following my usual recommendation of 'Don't dive with
more than one new piece of gear at a time'.

What I intended to be a short reply turned into a short story. So, my
point is, I would recommend that you start with a 6' footer.

Best regards,
Russ
