Since both Christian and Bjorn have been moved to express their views, allow
me to express mine.

The fun that used to be present in this list - and prior to the fall-out,
Scuba-L - has largely disappeared. Mostly as a result - it seems to me - of
behind the scenes activism. There seem to be few enquiries about aspects of
diving; few conversations or discussions about techniques, physics,
physiology, medicine or training; and little about equipment.

Most of the fault centres - it seems to me - on egos. There's nothing wrong
with ego. All of the great divers that I have ever known have possessed
one.

Regrettably, there are people on the list who believe that egos should be
curtailed in favour of their own. And who set out to undermine those folks
that do not agree with their point of view, (about diving.)

I find it sad that those people adopt 'line in the sand' attitudes to those
who hold contrary views to their own - or disagree with them in any way
whatsoever. They may well prove themselves masters of debate - but usually
fall short in their understanding about diving!!!!!

I, for example, do not approve of anything that I may say here being used on
rec.scuba in a point-scoring-exercise. (That I happen to agree with what
has been said here about some of the dangerous foolishness that is
propagated as fact in rec.scuba is neither here nor there. It's down to
those readers of that NG to make up their own minds about the worth of the
advice that they're given!) :-)

However, it does seem to me that unless all of the people subscribed to to
SE pull their thumbs out of their bums and start regarding this as a
learning/infotainment list, then it's in grave danger of going the same way
as Scuba-L. (i.e. a few, "behind-the-scenes", people attempting to sway
every subscriber to their point of view.)

Bollox to that, says I! :-)))
