Pardonez moi,

I am about 2 days old and new to this list.
Does SE stand for "Sloppy Engineering" now?

A Lotus of the edible kind? <BG>

Having owned SEVERAL "real cars" of the S-class SL type, I am compelled
to speak up on behalf of the Poms (or is it Brits?) that I owned a REAL
CAR (the British made Lotus Europa) which would have left Andy's SL 500
or my SL 560 (bigger and faster :-)) standing STILL on an informal drag
race at a traffic light stop.

It was a superb piece of engineering marvel. 40+ miles per gallon in
city driving, and red-lines not before 10,000 rpm!

My &*#%$@ insurance company wouldn't insure it even before I got any
speeding ticket on it (after I had already purchased it), so I
relunctantly sold it and started driving the INFERIOR (euphemistically
called "sports cars") cars like the MB SLs and BMWs, and received
plenty of tickets at speeds exceeding 100 mph. :-)

BTW, The rear window of the Lotus Europa is about 3" tall (the car
itself is no taller than a short hose). Why would it need a rear
defroster? It automatically attracted all the Hot Rods on the road
that would have defrosted anything on the car, had those Hot Rods
been able to keep up with the Lotus when I stepped on the accelerator
when it was crusing at 90 mph when the engine was barely idling. :-))

I have to comeback and visit this LIST again, some time.
