The fins - TUSA's 'Platina Plus' - that I was given to try out have been on
the market for a little while. A single moulded design with comfortable
foot pocket, the side rails and central stabilising rib provide greater
support for the flexible blade.

When swimming slowly - as we were today - I tend to favour an ankle kick,
with both legs held together and just flicking the blades up and down. Used
in that mode, these fins certainly proved more efficient than the jet fins.
But when - as was the case towards the end of the dive - I started to kick
against the slight current, I noticed the drop in thrust: having to kick
more frequently to cover the same distance than with the jet fins, or even
the Wenoka 'batten' fins.

The dolphin kick was "OK!"; the frog kick a little disappointing, and they
didn't appear to provide the same degree of manouverability when rotating on
the spot as the stiffer bladed fins. All in all they weren't bad
considering that I've only used them on one dive - and realistically it's
difficult to evaluate something properly based on a single experience.

But the foot pocket was really comfortable! :-)
