It took place over a measured distance in Sydney Harbour in 1983. The entry
in the Australian Section of the 1986 Guiness Book of Records - the only one
that I have or have ever bothered to subsequently look at - reads: "A team
of Pamela Dilworth", the partner of the organiser, "and 5 men walked 82.9
kilometres, 51.5 miles underwater in Sydney Harbour in 48 hours on 2 - 4
September, 1983." Of the 5 guys, four were serving Navy divers. Althiough
the idea was to do it in relay style, Pam actually walked the furthest with
me in close second place. As an enjoyable exercise, I've had better! <BWG>
But it was done for the purpose of buying a doppler machine to study stroke
syndrome research for the hospital where Pam worked. From memory we raised
enough money to buy one-and-a-half machines - and I lost 14 pounds of weight
in just 48 hours! :-)
