For those who get excited about great lubricants, I just stumbled upon
a can of SailKote Marine Dry Lubricant, which I use to use - and marvel
at - on the mainsail track (and other bits) of my sailboat. A friend
who has done some serious racing tells me that all the America's Cup
boats use it on blocks, sails, cars, tacke, and that in big-league
racing, the boats are practically coated with the stuff. I know it
quickly tamed my recalcitrant main, making it go up and down the track
like butter and making what had been a 2-3 person job into something
that Sandy could handle herself with ease.

I'd been having trouble with a sticky inflator hose attachment fitting,
and decided to try a quick squirt on the male part and see what
happened. It solved the problem immediately - the fitting now goes on
and off as easy as can be. I'm going to try it on my various gate
snaps, which get tight and difficult to use, and which I used to
lubricate with teflon grease, the same stuff I use on wetsuit and
bootie zippers.

It's not cheap, but a little goes a long way. Just don't put any of it
on any place you don't want to be slippery.
