No doubt written by a non boat owner.  It's close, but not precise enough.
There actually seems to be a cycle.

1. Buy a boat.

2. Buy a bigger boat (may be repeated as often as necessary).

3. Get rid of the bigger boat and get a smaller one (may be repeated as
often as necessary.

4. Get rid of the last boat.

5. Die
