OK. My poll is done. Nobody else has reported back, so I'll provide my
data.

Respondent One - Resort Course in Grand Lido Negril, Jamaica. One
instructor for 8 students during predive and pool session, thee guides,
including the instructor for the dive itself. As someone who later got
certified, he believes his predive training covered the basics. Guest
completed standard medical form.

Respondent Two - Resort Course in Mexico. One instructor for predive
training, a ratio of one guide for 3 students during dives. Did a
reasonably good job of teaching physiology and in ensuring basic skills
including mask clearing and regulator sharing were covered. Guest completed
standard medical form.

Two respondents did not report ratios of medical information, but did
mention depth. In both cases, it was more than I expected. One mentioned
65 feet, the other mentioned 85.

So, based on Strike's original post, it looks like the norm may be one
instructor for predive and a ration of one guide to three guests during the
dive with what seems to be a reasonable amount of predive training and a
guest completed medical form.
