Subject: Island of the sharks

Ok, well last night I went out to dinner with a few WAUPS members (Perth UW
photo club). After stuffing our faces we went to the Omni theatre here to
watch Island of the sharks. Producer Howard Hall & naturally excellent
footage. The film was only an hour long :-( ... I could have sat there for
hours looking at all the other stuff they probably didnt bother with due to
the expense of this type of film format. This was my exact feeling after
watching Antartica .. I wanted to see MORE :-))

Filmed around Cocos Island (not Cocos Island in the Cocos-Keeling set for
those near Indonesia & OZ). Obviously also shot at the particular times of
the year when the hammerhead sharks migrated there.. 100's of them.

Had a hilarious sequence of starfish in fast-forward-mode zapping, rolling
& climbing all over the place during their mating season. Being algae
eaters they were having a feast because El Nino had wiped out a lot of the
coral.

Showed a very dis-interested ;-) female stingray being pursued by dozens of
male stingrays. Massive manta rays floating through like batman. But the
highlight was the shark feeding frenzies. They would ball the fish up &
slowly shoo them up to the surface where the boobies were waiting. The
action in progress attracted the attention of some marlin. The dolphins
arrived too late.

If this film is in your area do make an effort to see it.
