The terminology is different: the originals were VERY slippery (as I
said, I suppose it's been corrected) on slick surfaces such as
aluminium and marine ply. Not a problem on, say, raw concrete.

On appropriate, and coarse, surfaces, such as concrete, they were/are
easier to
walk in or indeed drop into the sea from because of their inherently
lesser length/mass.
