'carefully' is a relative term! :-)
Bear in mind that *any* regulator should be designed with its use at depth
in mind! I've used G-250's that "blurt and fart" on the surface but that
function perfectly at depth; similarly with Apeks regs. If they were mine,
then I'd break them down and re-assemble so that I *know* that there's
nothing untoward in them. ie. regulators straight out of the box can - and
do - occassionally have foreign matter in the system. (Filings, dust, etc.)
If left unattended these can - and do - cause problems. (It's one of the
reasons that I always have my regs O2 cleaned regularly - even ones that
I've owned and used for years - or on delivery!) :-)
Apart from being a safeguard against something that's never going to
happen - if you believe people who suggest that high concentration's of O2
are OK up to 40%, but that beyond that they're dangerous??? - it's a good
opportunity to make sure that the thing's been assembled properly, and that
in the event of a malfunction, you know who to blame! :-)
